But not as UGLY! His description is wrong. This is an !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . Type 73 since the type 83 was later in the production and the owner says this is a 1974. Interesting vehicles. I’d own one.

Man, I don’t have the time, space, or money for a project, but I want it!

You are right (although I wouldn’t call the Europa ugly either).

But... “Estate”? I have never heard or read them being called anything by “Elite”. There was also a short-roof/fastback version called “Eclat”, later Excel.

But yes, such an attractive car...

Probably nobody ever has the right amount of time, space or money for an old Lotus in need of TLC.

Towards the end it must be a very rewarding accomplishment though.

I guess I was going with the type 14 being a coupe, I guess it is more of a shooting brake.

Considering one has a Ford/lotus engine in the front and one has a Renault engine in the middle, yeah.

Yeah... $2500 I don’t have, nor a garage do I have, and no money to fix it.

Indeed, shooting brake is probably a more fitting definition. But I wouldn’t find it that shocking an Elite being called an estate (or station wagon); it’s just that the capital E made it look as if it were the official name for the model.

Obviously 2,500 US$ is just a frightfully small amount of the total final expenditure needed (not including therapy and professional counselling) before you more-or-less get a car that is actually going to last a while.

I wonder how expensive the replacement chassis is?

Good thing that car is far, far away from me.

I don’t think that engine in particular has much to do with Ford (unlike the one in, say, the Lotus Cortina or the Elan).

An apt comparison nonetheless, sir.

Hopefully. Those things were built down to a price.

Same as Enzo, Arthur Colin Bruce only really cared about his GP cars. The rest was simply a means to an end (and bar Clark, in the case of his GP cars that also probably included the drivers)

The 904 is a heavily worked over Kent block iirc. Wiki would probably prove me wrong.

Kinja'd!!!1

Wiki did ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lotus_900_series ).

Also according to Wikipedia there were a few Europa versions with non-Renault engines: the Type 74 and “Twin Cam” (Lotus Twin Cam, the one with the block based on the Kent) plus the Lotus 47 and 62, which could be considered (much modified) racing versions of the Europa.

The Type 47 used a Lotus Twin Cam; the Type 62 served to develop Lotus’ own 907 engine (the one in the Elite/Eclat) but actually used a Vauxhall iron block (904).

I think I now have a headache...

There are TWO of them, white, nearly abandoned and inoperable, doing hard time in the San Francisco weather with no roof, in the parking lot of some marketing agency...they’ve been there for a decade. Now I know exactly what they are. I knew they were Lotus.
